Naked Clothes- 1

Naked Clothes

Begin the Jive

THE FIRST PART

a poetry series by student DP

Room, full of people –

peopled clothes.

dressed with faces

and fingers,

and toes

Silhouettes

silent

as still as could be,

glinting

in fine jewellery.

Diamond encrusted

bangles, and rings,

and necklaces,

watches –

expensive things!

The clock did tick

one hand

past twelve

midnight fell and

normal was shelved

Ebbed from a stillness

then

flowed into a dance –

a terpsichorean

daydream, or trance

Upon the song

of the cuckoo clock

the rules

of day

seemed to stop

The figures fidgeted;

they flickered

and swayed,

continuing to conflagrate

such a parade

No one of them thought

to turn off that switch

so,

from across the road,

curtains did twitch

A scene with flare

and rhythm bewitched

as danceness inhabited

each single

stitch

People wore clothes

but

clothes wore people

as a boogie blossomed

from this very sepal

Clothes unpeopled

but with dance were painted

and with nobodies

within

they were untainted

Skin fell like garments

and all faces faded,

removing their persons

to be quite naked…
